A foggy, drizzly March Day. The ice was well over 12 inches thick the temperature in the mid 40's. Many people were out and about walking dogs and enjoying a warm day following a frigid, snow and ice filled January and February. 8 School snow days occurred this winter.

With record rains in the fall, little snow before Christmas and record cold and snow in January and February students ask questions about short and long term climate trends. The Wingra community is concerned with impact of increased road and sidewalk salt use on the lake health.

In addition to monitoring lake health students are learning about energy in science. Describe how conservation of energy can be witnessed through the use of a propane ice auger.

The pH of Dane county lakes should be close to neutral (7). We have noticed a slight increase.

Cold water can hold more dissolved oxygen, so why might the concentration levels be lower in late winter?
