Districtwide Assessments

ACCESS for ELLs - WIDA

ACCESS for ELLs (ACCESS) is the collective name for WIDA's suite of summative English language proficiency assessments. ACCESS is taken annually by English learners in kindergarten through grade 12 in WIDA Consortium member states. WIDA provides this flexible suite of tests because we know that no single test is suitable for all students.

Educators use ACCESS results, along with other WIDA resources, to make decisions about students' English academic language and to facilitate their language development.

Students' scores reflect proficiency levels ranging from Level 1 (Entering) to Level 6 (Reaching).

They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures that can be used to regularly detect risk and monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The measures are consistent with many of the Common Core State Standards in Reading, especially those for Foundational Skills. When implemented as recommended, DIBELS results can be used to evaluate individual student development as well as provide grade-level feedback toward validated instructional objectives.

Common Assessments

Each grade band will administer common assessments in Reading, Math, Science and Writing. A common assessment is a method to evaluate student learning, progress and knowledge retention. This style of assessment will provide teachers with the feedback necessary to determine effective teaching content, format and styles. Common assessments are used to determine achievement in a fair and consistent way across multiple classrooms.
