Standards and I Can Statements

ELA Standards

• Standard 1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.

• Standard 2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds.

• Standard 3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills when decoding words.

MATH Standards

• K.NS.1 Count forward by ones and tens to 100.

• K.NS.3 Read numbers from 0 – 20 and represent a number of objects 0 – 20 with a written numeral.

• K.NSBT.1 Compose and decompose numbers from 11 – 19 separating ten ones from the remaining ones using objects and drawings.

I CAN Statements:

• I can follow words left to right in a book.

• I can show spaces between words in a book.

• I can show and name all letters of the alphabet in a book.

• I can follow words top to bottom and know when to turn the page in a book.

• I can show words I say in a book.

• I can hear and say rhyming words.

• I can take words apart and blend them together in many different ways.

• I can read high-frequency words.

• I can count to 100 by ones.

• I can write the numbers from 0-20.

• I can match the correct number of objects to the numbers 0-20.
