The Edgefield County School District school counseling program focuses on providing culturally sustaining instruction, appraisal and advisement, and counseling to help all students, K-12, to utilize academic achievement strategies, self-management skills, and interpersonal skills that will lead to the successful exploration and development of postsecondary options, including college, the military, the workforce, and/or other post-secondary training options.
Through the implementation of the South Carolina School Counseling and Career Guidance Model, school counselors in our district encourage the development of the following mindsets in ECSD students:
Belief in development of the whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical wellbeing
Sense of respect and support for self and others in the school environment
Positive attitude toward work and learning
Self-confident in the ability to succeed
Belief in using abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes
Understanding that postsecondary education and lifelong learning are necessary for long-term success
