Addition and Subtraction Fluency Expectations:

• Per the NYS Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards, kindergarten students are expected to demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts within 5, meaning that they can provide the sum/difference with speed and accuracy

• Kindergarten students should also be able to add and subtract within 10, as well as solve addition and subtraction word problems within 10, but fluency is not expected in this range; learners may require the use of drawings and/or manipulatives to determine the correct response
