Q: How does my school sign up?
A: If you are interested in participating in the Assessment to Achievement Program, contact Lisa McLachlan, USBE Assessment and Reporting Specialist.
Q: When is the deadline to enroll?
A: The application acceptance window will open on January 6th, 2020 and close January 31st, 2020. We will notify all Utah districts and charters when this occurs.
Q: How much does the program cost?
A: Training costs are covered by the Utah State Board of Education.
Q: What is the expected commitment for participating schools?
A: Assessment to Achievement (A2A) is an extended professional learning project expected to last up to four years. During this time, it is expected that a School Transformation Team and a District Transformation Team (which may look different for a charter school) will participate in several learning sessions and on-site school visits throughout the school year. While these services will be provided free-of-charge to schools and compensation may be available for travel and classroom substitutes, a significant time commitment will be expected of school and district leadership teams who participate. It is anticipated that leadership teams will participate in at least 40 hours of A2A activities each school year.
Q: How will our school know where to start?
A: Once a school is notified that they will be participating in the project, they will receive detailed instructions on next steps and upcoming opportunities for professional learning. Schools will also participate in a data review for the purpose of establishing a shared understanding of the school's current state of student achievement and the instructional implications. From there, we will guide participating schools every step of the way to ensure you get the most out of the project.
Q: What about professional learning?
A: All participating schools will engage in year round professional learning sessions to build teams' capacity to engage in and lead instructional change based on data. Professional learning sessions will be in-person (location and dates TBD).
Q: When do we start?
A: All participating districts, charters, and schools will begin the A2A project with a Summer Professional Learning Kick-Off Session. District Transformation Teams (DTTs) and Charter Leadership Teams (CLTs) will attend a one-day initial session during the summer. School Transformation Teams (STTs) will attend a 3-day initial session during the summer.
Q: What if our school does not have a leadership team yet?
A: Not to worry! All participating schools will form a School Transformation Team and support Collaborative Teacher Teams in order to empower all teachers as instructional leaders. A School Transformation Team is com
Q: Will we be observed?
A: Yes! Each participating school will engage in on-site coaching visits over the course of the school year to receive targeted feedback and embedded support from their Utah State Board of Education and Ed Direction partners. Our site visits open the door for real-time, customized feedback that is targeted to a school’s self-identified needs and goals.
