My name is Jonah Crerar and I am 17 years old. I am in grade 12 and I’ve taken visual art since grade 9. Creating art has always been a passion of mine. It’s also always been one of my favourite subjects in school because it’s a time where I can just be creative. I have completed Media Arts classes along with Visual Art classes. My favourite type of art is visual (drawing, sketching, and painting) because it a great way to relax and be creative. I can focus on the art piece I am doing with little distractions.
This semester I chose to create my artworks on the theme of time. I choose the theme of time because it is often overlooked. People take time for granted, and it is something that you never get back. In my art, I have been most inspired by tattoo artists and social media (TikTok). I have developed an appreciation for the time, as we are in a pandemic and we need to live life to the fullest, and I wanted to show this in my artwork.
For my future plans, I want to get an apprenticeship in woodworking. Woodworking is art because you are being creative when you are creating pieces such as tables, cupboards, designs on wood, etc. Being creative and working with my hands is important to me, and that is why I plan to get into woodworking. Art will always be a part of my life.

My work is a piece based on time. There are only 24 hours in a day, and time can go by quickly and slowly. Time is something that you never get back, so it is important to use your time wisely.
The piece Petals Falling is to bring awareness that time can slip away if you don’t catch it. Eventually all the petals on the rose will fall off and it will die. People need to ensure that they live life to the fullest. You want to blossom and not crumble and fall down. The piece shows a rose starting to fall over and lose its petals. The petals represent time slipping away, and the rose represents a person.

My work piece is based on the perspective that time matters. Time matters in everyone's life because it is something that you can never get back.
The piece Time Matters includes a quote that describes love. I included this quote because love grows over time, and every moment with a loved one matters. I decided to make the background of the paper look rustic by crumpling up the paper and putting it in hot tea, to make it look old. Making the paper look old symbolizes that with time we get older and things change. The older people get the more important time matters, as lives are coming to an end, and time with loved ones is needed.

Time Zone shows how the sky shows time through morning and night. The piece is detailing how a day is split up into time. When it is night time the sky is dark, and when you get to the morning the sky is bright.

The Time of Big Ben is bringing awareness to the fact that time is known around the world, and in the past communities would build large clocks of all types to help people tell the time. I decided to do a painting of Big Ben because it was one of the largest clock towers in the world. It is a well known clock tower, and when people think of London, England they think of Big Ben.
