In this instalment of the Eve Dallas detective series, Eve confronts an egomaniacal psychopath who is sending golden eggs full of nerve gas to past enemies. She has to work quickly to solve the case to spare as many lives as possible. As with all Eve Dallas novels, this book was fast paced, edgy and fun. I love how J.D. Robb interweaves Dallas' personal steamy life with Roarke with her bad a$$ed cop persona. This book was everything I wanted it to be for this kind of read.
In this novel of the Katie Burkholder series, Katie is confronted with solving the brutal murder of a woman who, like herself, used to be Amish but left the plain life. Katie discovers many deep secrets about not only Rachel's personal life, but a fellow police officer and the Amish community as well. This book was a good fit for this series. The characters were well developed and mostly believable. However, I felt that the twist was too much and it didn't seem plausible. But, as always, I cannot wait for the next Katie Burkholder novel.
I absolutely loved this book! It switches between Eva Traube Abrams' life during WWII as a document forger for the French resistance and her life in 2005 as an elderly librarian. The characterization, imagery, and plot are captivating. Harmel's use of historical details makes this story come to life. It feels like Eva's story is entirely plausible. I couldn't stop listening. 5/5!!!
This novel was well written, vivid, and believable. I loved the characters and how the story switched between Lulu's and Elfriede's lives and experiences. I preferred Elfriede's story to Lulu's but I understand both perspectives were necessary to drive the plot. I was drawn to Elfriede's life and appreciated how Williams was able to draw women's historical experiences with mental illness into the story. I thought this aspect was an especially powerful part of the book. This book could have benefitted from a longer resolution. I felt the ending was too abrupt.
This novel was captivating. I found the interweaving story lines enjoyable and easy to follow. The characters were well developed and quite believable. I also enjoyed the imagery and description about the historical events. The only thing that could have improved the book was a little more development of the modern day timeline. I didn't like how it just jumped forward a few years at the end of the story. I felt like it didn't do the characters' stories justice.
