Watch the Muppets sing Queen's iconic hit song 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Freddie Mercury who was the lead singer of the band wrote this song in the 1970's. It is one of the most listened to songs ever written by a modern artist. Before he was a rock legend, before he became Freddie Mercury, he was known as Farrokh Bulsara, a quiet boy born to Parsi parents in Zanzibar (now in Tanzania). At a young age, Farrokh moved with his parents to Bombay, India. At the age of 7 he began taking piano lessons. He first sang in public when he performed in his school choir. Freddie was 17 when he and his family fled from Zanzibar to live in England. As a young man, Freddie dated both men and women (bisexual). For most of Freddy's life, the wider world didn't accept people who were gay and bisexual. While Freddie never publicly discussed his sexuality, being a rock star enabled him to push gender boundaries. When Freddie was onstage, he often wore wigs, leotards, angel wings and tight shorts. Sadly Freddie died in 1991, aged 45. He left behind an amazing legacy where he will be remembered as musically diverse, courageous and endlessly experimental. Queen continues to perform live concerts with their new lead singer Adam Lambert. Adam is openly gay and hopes that more people will recognise him for who he is and not just focus on his sexuality. He encourages kids who feel they are different to be themselves. He supports programs such as 'It Gets Better' to help others stand up to bullies.
