Welcome to the Introduction to the ACT BSSS Science Framework Workshop.
This workshop is designed to familiarise you with the Science Framework and consider how the framework will set for parameters for the teaching and assessment of your Science courses.
If you complete the activities to a satisfactory standard and submit them, then you will be entitled to to claim completion and TQI hours.
Here is a link to the new Science Framework.
Prepare a document with your answers to the questions and when the training is completed, send the document to bsssenquiries@act.gov.au

There is a cycle of review for all policies, frameworks and courses, and in response to changes in the national curriculum.
All frameworks should align with Board endorsed policies.
The Review of BSSS Senior Secondary Curriculum (2015) recommended that frameworks reflect coherence and consistency in design, format and quality.
The Shape of the ACT Senior Secondary Curriculum (2016) provides guidelines and design specifications, based on ACARA course design, and relevant to ACT context
The Science Framework is scheduled for review in 2029.
ACARA is currently reviewing the national curriculum senior secondary science courses, so there will be a minor review of the Framework and of courses written to the national Curriculum in 2025. A minor review is when the overall structure of a course is retained, e.g. units, but there are variations within unit, e.g. cognitive demand.
Australian Curriculum courses (P-10) and the relevant Senior Secondary courses (11-12) were adopted by the ACT government for use in ACT schools. Senior secondary courses draw on the national curriculum courses true to content. This was a decision made by government which we are required to follow.
BSS Senior Secondary courses are aligned with Australian Curriculum courses P-10, and build on the learning.
ACARA is currently undertaking a minor review of the national curriculum senior secondary science courses which will results in minor changes in our courses
A key difference from ACARA that affects our courses, is that units in courses do not have to be delivered sequentially, unlike Australian Curriculum.

Teachers will consider the integration of the different parts of the curriculum in developing a Program of Learning that will engage students in learning in their context.
Please consider the following:
How do the ACT senior secondary courses relate to the National Curriculum courses?
What changes are possible in the next few years?
Record a paragraph in response.
