Q. Will my child fall behind?
The simple answer...no! The content we are posting this term is a continuation of topics students have already begun, or a revision of content. Our teaching and learning teams are currently working on ensuring the online delivery is aligned with the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. Our termly overviews remain relevant to the content we will deliver remotely.
Q. How much work should my child do each day? (online/offline)
This will vary from day to day and week to week. Sometimes your child will be motivated and you may get several activities in a day, some days you might just play in the backyard all day! The tasks set by educators will be flexible and can be completed at any time of the day and any day of the school week, either all at once or spread out during the week! We do recommend a balance of screen/non screen based activities, outdoor activities, home responsibilities and free time play.
Q. What do I do with the work once it is completed?
Our educators will be communicating feedback directly to students either through Google Classroom submissions or Google Meets. The description in the task will give you specific details in how the activity should be completed and submitted.
Q. How will the teacher contact my child and vice versa?
We have several methods already used by our students.
Whole School Messages- on the HUB
Google Meets- links can be found in the Google Classrooms- where we will mark the roll
Written comments and feedback in Google Classroom
Phone calls for Wellbeing checks if/when required
For our youngest learners in preschool we will continue to send SMS attendance alerts. Please reply to the SMS to let us know you child is learning at home.
Q. Where can I find the content?
The Maribyrnong Home Learning Hub is your homepage! On this page you can access the Year Level Blog or Google Classrooms for your child.
Q. How can I find help as a parent?
The Maribyrnong Home Learning Hub will have ideas, resources and tutorials to support parents (this will build over time). You can also contact your child’s teacher through email at any time. Teachers will respond to your email during working hours.
Q. How can I motivate my child?
This may change from day to day and family to family. We suggest setting a daily routine and sticking to it as best as possible, this may be difficult at times! Your child may be motivated by a rewards chart or some set free choice activities. If you are finding it difficult to motivate your child please contact your child’s teacher for help.
Q. What is my role as the parent?
Your role is first and foremost, parent! It is your job to focus on the well-being of your child. This may mean creating a safe space with structure whilst also allowing them space for free choice and family time.
You are also taking on the role as a learning facilitator. This does not mean you need to create teaching content for your child. This means you provide structure and routine at home to support the learning set by the teacher.
Q. Why are the videos having trouble loading?
We are using the Google platform for all of our content. You will get the best results using the Google Chrome browser to access the content on the Home Learning Hub
