The BSSS has a cycle of review for Frameworks and Courses. The HASS Framework courses were reviewed across 2020-2022. The Framework is due for review in 2028 and HASS courses then in 2029 for implementation in 2030.
Courses and frameworks can be reviewed within that time period to align with Board endorsed policy changes, changes in disciplines, the wider world, or in relation to teacher feedback.
The Review of BSSS Senior Secondary Curriculum (2015) recommended that frameworks reflect coherence and consistency in design, format and quality, so hour courses are similar in form and purpose.
The Shape of the ACT Senior Secondary Curriculum (2016) provides guidelines and design specifications, based on ACARA course design, and relevant to ACT context.
Australian Curriculum courses (P-10) and Senior Secondary courses were adopted by the ACT government for use in ACT schools.
BSSS Senior Secondary courses are aligned with Australian Curriculum courses P-10, and build on the learning. F-10 has recently changed. Make sure you are across the prior learning experiences of students coming to your classroom in the ACT: ACARA F-10 V.9.0 HASS
There are National Curriculum courses in Ancient History, Geography, and Modern History. These reflect ACARA courses true to content. There other courses have been developed by ACT teachers.
ACARA Senior Secondary courses haven’t been revised or written. The BSSS awaits review by ACARA before existing courses are revised. ACARA is working on minor reviews in 2024-2025, which may result in minor variations to our ACT courses.
A key difference from ACARA that affects our courses, is that units in courses do not have to be delivered sequentially, unlike the Australian Curriculum.
