Work with the BBC Wales on december 2023
I have joined the Bangor Symphony Orchestra as a first violinits since september 2022. This orchestra is composed of university students as well a more local adults who wish to continue playing as an ensemble. Over my time at the symphony orchestra we have rehursed once a week, increasing up to a few times a week before our concerts where we play quite challenging pieces. In addition to our concerts, we occasionally have special invitations where we are able to play for or with other people. For christmas 2022 we played the childrens special "The Snowman" while accompaning the moive scenes for young children from primary school. `We have also recently completed a play day with the BBC national orchestra of wales, where each member of my ochestra sat next to a BBC member to play some music pieces together. Every monday I am excited to go to rehursal, it is such a wonderful time to be able to play with others who enjoy music as much as I do. I cherish every moment of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.
SPORT SOCIETIES
Since the start of university I have picked up athletics again. We train in all types of atheltic activites, sprints, long distance, long jump, high jump, shot put.... However my main area are sprints including the 200m and the 400m race along with relays. I have attended a numerous amount of competitions in the area, including the famous BUCS (British University Competition Sports) which was lived streamed around the world. I competed in the 60m, 100m and 200m race. This year I plan to contribute to BUCS again as part of Bangor University Athletics.
In addition to athletics I have picked up swimming, where each week I train twice. Following a set that has been instructed to us, I swim around 3km every session. Due to my passion of the ocean I enjoy any type of water sport including swimming.
I used to be part of the netball team at my primary school in England. Although this is a sport only known in the UK, I find it an exciting game which I was so happy to be able to continue at university
Student Ambassador: Empowering Through Education
This year I was selected through a large pool of students to become a demonstrater, participating in a STEM training course. I learnt how to demonstrate various types of experiments in the ocean science department, in all domains, biology, chemistry, physics and geology. Learning how to show these experiments as well as explain them to various types of publics, potential university students or children, I was able to develop my communication skills. During university open days I am able to talk to potential students about the university life, through experience and this STEM course of experiments.
Children workshops: Empowering Through Education
I organized a workshop at the International School of Geneva. As part of their study of marine ecosystems and ocean conservation, I organized a fish dissection.
The children were able to take part in the fish dissection in groups of four. They tried to identify the organs using scientific photographs, then made a scientific sketch and captioned it. An incredible experience for the children, who put themselves in the shoes of scientists for the duration of the workshop.
