IB Film
TASK – to create a video to accompany “This is Water”, a speech by David Foster Wallace OR your own/an original monologue
What needs to be done:
- Choose a 1-minute segment from the speech/record a 1 minute monologue
- Make your own recording of it OR use original speech
- Decide the sentiment, GENRE INFLUENCES & IDEOLOGY. What is the emotional, psychological, intellectual, etc. angle?
- Use images & PACING to convey it. Think about how they will fit together to support the spoken text.
- Pay attention to how you will communicate the message visually and try not to assume that your audience is familiar with your piece.
- Ask yourself how the sequence will cut together.
- How it will sound? This is very pronounced in the Youtube video – and massively impacts IDEOLOGY
- What concept/sentiment are you trying to achieve - Realism, Non-realism, Expressionism, Emotion, Documentary, Reportage…
- What IDEOLOGY?
- Your aim is to create a film in which image and text are inseparable, one in which your chosen sentiment is conveyed through image and text.
Film Parameters:
- Film Length: 1 minutes (Approx)
- Titles and Credits are White Font on Black Background, simple and clean
