Because some parents like to have more flexibility in scheduling their day to fit their family situation. Besides the Nature Classroom, parents are free to adjust their schedule as they see fit. Some classes and activities are offered in real time (synchronous), but these remain optional.

Because some families find appeal in the online socialization opportunities as well as those offered on-site, in nature classrooms. These activities help motivate the children and mentally prepare them for in-person schooling when you feel the time is right.

Because some parents wish to accompany their child in his or her learning at home, but find it reassuring to have the possibility of changing their mind during the year and opting instead for in-person schooling, if desired.

Because some parents prefer to offer a variety of learning modes and thus reduce their child’s screen time.

Because parents are happy to have access to important resources to support their child’s learning. Here are just a few examples:

• Connecting with the teacher: This link with school staff is intended to address parents' questions related to the activities in the learning package;

• Self-directed learning kit: This kit includes suggested activities that are engaging, optional and based on the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten curriculum. The activities suggested in the kit form part of the daily routine;

• Chromebook: The CECCE lends a Chromebook (or equivalent) to children who need one;

• Books and library services: The child has access to the services and books of the local school library, in addition to the digital book library. Additionally, the parent has access to suggestions for children’s books available at the municipal library or bookstore.

Because some parents who keep their children at home like the idea of having suggested learning activities that fit naturally and easily into the family’s daily routine. They also like being able to turn to a CECCE teacher to answer certain questions. Thus, Explor’A is a team effort between the family and the school.

Because some parents wish to receive a report on the learning that their child has been exposed to, allowing them to follow their child’s progress. The student will receive a report based on the learning experiences and feedback from the parent.

Because some parents who have made the decision to keep their child at home find it important to do activities to develop French language skills.
