Students embark on their journey through Egypt with a handbook! They learn of the geography, capital, and the Great Pyramid of Giza. They also know what to bring to survive the hot desert climate. After being introduced to Egypt by Mrs.Raborn, students watch a short video on some information about Egypt. They discover that Ancient Egypt was split into three kingdoms, that their paper was made from the papyrus plant, and that lucky children lived to see their 5th birthday! All of the students were thankful to live in our generation.
Students learn of the sphinxes and create one of themself! Fit with a portrait of themselves and an animal of their choice.
Students take a chance in blended learning to use Minecraft Education to build pyramids of their own!
Today the students learned about mummies, pharaohs, and the Gods and Goddesses of Egyptian mythology! They learn about prominent Gods such as Ra, Horus, Isis, and Anubis. They also learn about important pharaohs like Ramses II and King Tut. Students also learn about the process of mummification and why it's so important for the ancient Egyptians!
For crafts today, students created their own paper necklace! They designed their necklaces with vivid colors. All necklaces had different designs that showed off each students unique creativity!
Morning Class (1st-3rd)
Afternoon Class (3rd-5th)
With Mrs.Raborn, the students carved a face into an apple. They then shook their apple into a bag with mixed baking soda and salt. Let's see how their apples will look on Thursday!
Individually, or in pairs, the students studied a God/Goddess of Egypt or a pharaoh using GT principles (Details, Main Idea, Different Perspectives, Language of the Discipline).
Today the lessons for the morning and afternoon classes were swapped! Our morning class focused on furthering their understanding of the gods, goddesses, and pharaohs of Egypt. Our afternoon class took aim on understanding mummification.
Morning class got to work on their Egyptian Cards!
Some of the afternoon class finished their pyramids! They mostly worked in pairs to finish their large, monumental structure. A few planned to add mazes and traps to their pyramid!
Today our morning class got to put their King Tut drawings on papyrus paper! Both of our classes got to learn about hierogylphics! They finished their handbooks with writing a story about their journey with a picture. Both classes also took on a cup stacking challenge that tested their coordination and teamwork!
