Did anyone see the beautiful full moon recently? If you look closely, you can see the craters! Here is a recipe for making your own "moon sand" to play with:
Mix 8 cups of flour and 1 cup of vegetable in a large bowl. Take turns with someone, counting and mixing. Turn the dough out into a large tray or tub (whatever you have.) Find objects around your house like cups, play-doh molds, cookie cutters, etc. to use in making shapes, and see what all you can create!
This is a really cool NASA site with all kinds of ideas for STEM activities you can do at home. There are also printables, online games, and ebooks you can read. Check it out!
Have some fun with science! Here are some experiments you can do at home.
"Density"
When you add sugar to a liquid, it causes the liquid to become more dense. The more sugar you add, the more dense the liquid becomes.
Watch the video above to see how to do this very cool experiment!
"Surface Tension"
Dish detergent is made to break down fats as it cleans our dishes. When you drop dish detergent liquid onto the surface of a bowl of milk, it breaks down the fats in the milk. Drops of food coloring on the surface of the milk will move around, creating a rainbow, when the dish detergent disrupts the surface of the milk and moves the fats around.
