East Carter R-2

COVID-19

Parent Resources

Dear East Carter Families,

Educational Resources: As the District is closed in response to COVID-19, we are committed to supporting your student's learning while they are away from school. This website will be updated as teachers find more resources and the district learns new information, so check back often as new things may be added. Your child's teacher may reach out to you with more specific information. Parents, feel free to contact your child's teacher if you need guidance on what lessons your child needs to work on or if you need help logging onto the resources. You can access resources for each grade level using the tabs above. The activities are OPTIONAL. Assignments will NOT be required or graded. We simply want to help engage and support student learning at home. We are appreciative and thankful for many educational companies that are offering free access to their resources during this time.

Internet service/cellular data: Several carriers are advertising that they are removing data caps and not throttling connections during this period. We recommend that you contact your cellular or internet service provider to see what offers are available: waiving late fees, delayed payments, etc. Some local providers are: AT&T, Verizon, or Sparklight (Cable One/NewWave)

Food Services: Meal Pickup will be Monday through Friday from 10-Noon at the back of the FEMA/SEMA Building. (Breakfast & Lunch trays will be picked up at the same time) These meals are FREE to all ages birth to 18 years. The children DO NOT need to be present to pick up a meal. This will be a curb side service provided through our Opaa Food service. This means you will drive your car through and the lunch ladies will hand you your meals without you having to leave your car. If you and your neighbors would like to have one person come and get a group of students' meals you are welcome to do that. If you are unable to pick up a meal or have someone pick a meal up for you, contact Olivia Price on Facebook or contact your child's teacher and they will put you in contact with volunteers willing to deliver.

MISSING THE LIBRARY?

You can still get access to ebooks and other resources through our public libraries in Van Buren and Poplar Bluff.

The Carter County Public Library offers digital resources such as Overdrive (ebooks/audiobooks), Kanopy (movies), and Tumble Books (books and more). You can locate them at cartercountylibrary.org or on their Facebook page, Carter County Public Library. If you do not have a library account or Overdrive access, you can go to the library HOMEPAGE and click on the “Contact” link and scroll to the bottom of the page to fill in your information. Library staff will email you the information you need to access these services.

Because the school district is in Carter County, you can also use the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library. They also offer access to such online resources as Libby (ebooks/audiobooks magazines), Hoopla(ebooks movies comics), and Tumble Books. You can sign up for an e-card that allows you to access their online resources. You can find them at poplarbluff.org.

Right now, Audible (by Amazon) is also offering a collection of audiobooks to listen to for free. You can access them at stories.audible.com
