Trained in the US from an American Psychological Association accredited doctoral program
As a psychologist, my passion is using the most effective methods, tailored to your unique experiences, to help bring about the change you want in your life. When things seem overwhelming, we break them down and make them doable. You'll get no judgment from me. Believe me, your problems, your situation, your personality, your past - it's all understandable.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, I still love driving through the idyllic Pennsylvania farmland, keeping my eye out for sales of Pennsylvania Dutch baked goods whenever I return to visit.
I lived in Virginia for four years while I attended university for my BS in Psychology before moving to Colorado for my Psychology PhD at Colorado State University in 2012.
I lived in Colorado (Fort Collins and Denver) for 9 years and worked in Cheyenne, Wyoming for 2 years before moving to Bologna, Italy in 2021 (mostly to eat the food, but also for the adventure) where I continued my practice fully online with my American clients.
In 2024, my partner and I moved once again to the Netherlands, where we currently reside.
In addition to eating all the best food I can find, I love absorbing the culture of a new city, meeting new people, hiking with my partner, practicing yoga, reading for my book club, and drinking amazing coffee.
I am a native English speaking, CBT psychologist located in the Netherlands. I became a licensed psychologist in the state of Colorado in 2019 with a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Colorado State University.
As a psychologist from an American Psychological Association-accredited PhD program, I have broad training across the range of psychological disorders and mental health, with additional trainings in the areas of managing stress, worry, panic, hopelessness, lack of meaning or purpose, loss and grief, loneliness and isolation, and relationship problems. The most frequent problems I have helped people manage are Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Borderline Personality Disorder. I first meet you and listen to you. When we both feel I have a good grasp of the circumstances bringing you to therapy, we develop goals and a plan for achieving them. We measure your progress in every session to make sure we're on the right path. If we're not, we make adjustments to our approach.
At times, I teach skills you can use to cope with stress, flashbacks, panic, and other intense emotions. I also assign specific exercises or "experiments" for you to try outside of our sessions to enhance your progress as you're ready. I continuously check-in on how you're feeling, your level of motivation, and your interest throughout sessions to make sure we're going at the right pace for you.
Above all, I prioritize making sure you are heard, understood, and that we are both on the same page with your treatment - it's the only way it works! You can see more here about what to expect from a session with me.
The specific theoretical frameworks I use and have received additional training in are: TEAM-CBT (an enhanced model of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal and Social Rhythms Therapy (IPSRT) for Bipolar Disorders.
