Welcome to 6th Grade Science!
Course Description: In this class, we will investigate science and how they apply to our everyday lives. These units are designed to build a foundation of learning and investigation that will serve the students in the following units.
Quarter 1- Periodic Table and Cells
Quarter 2- Populations and Resources and Matter & Energy in Ecosystems
Quarter 3- Force & Motion and Magnetic Fields
Quarter 4- Earth, Moon & Sun and Sound & Light Waves
Classroom Rules: Students will be expected to follow ALL school rules while in room 118. Dress code will be strictly enforced. Please refer to the Student Handbook for detailed rules and dress code. EVERY Falcon, every day is expected to show academic success, responsibility, respect, growth and honor…for every Falcon, EVERY day!
Classwork and Homework: Students learn best when they participate in class activities. All graded work is to be saved and kept for future reference including LEAP preparation.
Classwork is to be done in class and not saved for homework. Treat every assignment as if it is for a grade.
Homework will be assigned sparingly for reinforcement of instruction as needed. If there is no assigned homework, students should review notes daily. There will also be projects that students will work on in and out of class. Homework is due at an assigned time in Google Classroom.
Quizzes/Unit Tests/Projects: Quizzes are given regularly to check for understanding including vocabulary quizzes. They will be analyzed and used to re-teach concepts on an individual basis. A Unit Test will be given at the end of each unit. Projects (Ex. Science Fair) requiring extended time will count as a test grade.
Cheating/Plagiarism: Students who cheat are only cheating themselves. Cheating can include but is not limited to: copying homework, class assignments, bell work, or answers from tests/quizzes; talking or texting during quizzes and tests; copying information from the internet without citing sources, etc. Students found to be cheating will earn a zero and will receive a behavior referral.
Chromebooks: These should be charged on a nightly basis. Get into a routine to help yourself remember. Example- place your Chromebook in your backpack near an outlet. Plug in the Chromebook to change. In the morning, unplug from the outlet and place the plug in your backpack. You are ready to go!!!
Absences: Absent students are responsible for getting any make-up assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher and classmates for all notes and assignments missed. Tests and quizzes are to be immediately scheduled with the teacher for a make-up time.
Late Work: Assignments are due when they are due; otherwise, penalties apply. And yes, there are limits to how late your teacher(s) can grade late work or even accept it.
Regardless of the reason for absence, we will allow students one week from the assigned date to make up their work with no grade penalty.
Students should check Google Classroom and then, if necessary, request the work from the teacher, set up a time to make up a test and turn the work in within 5 school days.
1- 2 School Days Late- Highest grade possible is B (89%)
3-4 School Days Late- Highest grade possible is C (79%)
5 School Days Late- Highest grade possible is D (69%)
LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER 1 WEEK
