My name is Adeline Dauphiné. (The Dauphiné last name is new, so if you knew me as Ms. Owens before my wedding, that's me!) This is currently my 5th year teaching 6th Grade Advanced ELA at Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School. I was actually blessed enough to complete my full year of student teaching here at SMAMS, so it's technically my 6th year here at this awesome place of learning! A few of my passions include reading (of course), creative writing (also, of course), hanging out with my sweet Mini Goldendoodle puppy, and spending time with loved ones.
When I tell people I'm a middle school teacher, I often get a few popular responses like "Oh my goodness, I could NEVER!" To people who say, "Oh, bless your heart, I don't know how you do it!" I often respond by explaining that I fell in love with teaching middle school because I myself had a really rough time adjusting to 6th grade life. I went through a time when I was making C's and D's solely because I was allowing myself to become overwhelmed with the pressure of navigating 8 classes for the very first time, finding my way around a HUGE school in Atlanta, GA with over 1,200 kids in my 6th grade class, and a lot of personal things in my life that just led to me not doing my best. It was only through the help of my 6th grade teachers that I was able to overcome this tough time and turn those C's and D's into A's and B's again. I come to "work" every day to help young people navigate the difficulties they can often face at this age. Plus, 6th graders are super fun to be around, read and write with, and learn from too!
As an ELA teacher, I strongly believe that reading and writing are two of the most fundamental tools that we can use to be successful in life. Without communication, we have nothing. This pandemic has brought forth a ton of communication challenges, and my hope is that my streamlined efforts to communicate will help you out with this, at least a little bit!
Again, I'm so glad to meet you, and that you're here with me on this wild 2021-2022 school year journey! Let's do this!
Love,
-Mrs. Dauphine
