WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Friday 24th March 2023
A MESSAGE FROM MRS WINTER
This week we are launching the new format for our weekly newsletter. We continue to listen to you to try and provide the best possible way to communicate information from school so that it is informative, accessible and updates you with what is happening in school.
Previous feedback has told us that the format we were using was not compatible with a mobile phone and made it very difficult to access the information. Moving forward we are hoping that this new format will be mobile phone and tablet friendly so the information is more readily available. As always, we will ensure the information is uploaded onto the website each week.
I would welcome feedback on communication in general as a school, what you think is working well and areas you feel we could improve on. Please use our admin email which is admin.shs@ebor.academy or should you wish to email something which is confidential please email slt.shs@ebor.academy
Next week we are looking forward to welcoming you into school on Friday afternoon for our Easter Assemblies. Please see below for the timings for each year group as we are running two separate sessions.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend
With best wishes
Mrs Winter

EASTER BONNET PARADE & ASSEMBLIES
Due to our growing school, and the capacity of the school hall, we will hold two Easter Assemblies:
Assembly 1: 2.00 p.m. - 2.30 p.m.: KS2 (Derwent, Foss, Calder & Humber)
Assembly 2: 2.30 p.m. - 3.00 p.m.: Reception & KS1 (Nidd, Swale, Aire, Wharfe, Ouse)
Collection of children after the assemblies
For parents who do not have children in Assembly 2, your child will return to class to collect their belongings and you are welcome to collect them from the playground when they are ready (this may be a little earlier than the usual finish time).
If you have a child in both assemblies, once the first assembly has finished, your older child will return to class so you can stay to watch the second performance and you will collect your children from their classroom in the usual way when Assembly 2 has finished.
Organisation of Easter Bonnets
Please can you ensure your Easter Bonnets are brought into school on the morning of 31st March. Once in class, children will take them to the hall so they can be displayed and judged for the competition. Children will collect their bonnets before lunch, ready to wear in their respective parades.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
FLYING FUTURES
There is still time to apply for a place at Flying Futures Camp that is taking place from 11th April to 14th April from 10.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m.

WHAT'S COOKING
The children have been really busy in Cook School over the last few weeks! Team Derwent and Team Foss have been making delicious Carrot Cake Cupcakes. Several staff members have been drawn to the area because of the mouth watering smells wafting down the corridors!
Congratulations to our 6 newly appointed Phunky Foods Ambassadors from Team Calder. These children are going to help the school spread the word about eating healthily and looking after ourselves, both physically and mentally. The focus this term is 'Strive for Five!' - the Ambassadors will be delivering an assembly to all children in April to share the important message of eating '5 a day'. They are also going to be running a competition for all children with some fantastic prizes to be won! We will keep you updated with this.

REMINDERS
Drinks in School
Do not send your child into school with fizzy drinks or Prime. Please only send your child into school with water or dilute juice.
Plasters
Please may we politely remind you that earrings need to be removed on PE days or they can be covered with a plaster.
The plasters we hold in the medical room are to be used for accidents so please cover your child's earrings before your child comes to school or if they are old enough, send them into school with plasters so they can cover them themselves.
