 A MESSAGE FROM MRS WINTER

Dear Families,

Next Friday we are having our non uniform day for Selby, Hands of Hope.  As the logo for the charity is a rainbow, we are inviting children to come in bright, rainbow clothing.  Please note, that as well as toys, you are able to donate any new Christmas gift such as smelly sets, books etc.  Thank you as always for your continued support, we are very grateful.

This week we are sharing the times for the Christmas performances the information with regards to ticket will be sent on Monday.

Thank you for your continued support with improving attendance, we have seen a significant improvement over the last two weeks.  All classes are continuing to collect letters for the word 'attendance' and I am sure we will see some teams come in non-uniform next week to celebrate.  Class teacher will share via parent hub when their team has their reward.  Just to reiterate all teams will get this reward.

With warm wishes

Mrs Winter

We are pleased to announce that we have successfully appointed a Safeguarding Hub Lead for the Selby Hub.  Mr. Steve Metcalfe will join Staynor Hall after Christmas and will be based at Staynor Wednesday to Friday as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, alongside Mrs Winter.  Mr Melcalfe will work with children, families and professional agencies. Mr. Metcalfe joins Staynor from Brotherton & Byram school where he has worked as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Welfare, Attendance and Behaviour Lead since 2018 and comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am sure you will join me in welcoming Mr. Metcalfe to our team.

MUSIC MARK

Staynor Hall has received its first ever music mark award. This is to show the school has musical excellence and we provide the best music education for our children. Its given to schools that meet a certain standard of music which the national curriculum provides. Wer are delighted to have been given the award. In the past year our music offer within school has developed incredibly.

As a school we now offer:

COOK SCHOOL

What's Cooking

Team Foss have been in Cook School this week cooking a very delicious Sweet Potato Dahl.  They have been learning about  the Diwali Festival of Lights and looking at the cuisine that those celebrating may enjoy.  The children have enjoyed peeling and cutting sweet potatoes and looking at different spices and lentils.  The dahl they have made has been delicious and will be donated to Sleep Safe to help get them through the cold weather.  Children have also enjoyed making some flatbreads to enjoy with the dahl.  All the children have worked really hard this week - well done to you all!

Next week, Team Humber will be joining me in Cook School to make some delicious fruit scones that we will be sharing with our friends at Osborne House.

PARKING

Yesterday, we was paid a visit by a local PCSO who was following up concerns that were raised at the recent community meeting.

Residents are concerned about the number of cars parked outside of school at the beginning and end of the school day, some of which are parked on pavements or blocking residents' access.  This often adds to the congestion on Staynor Link and can block the view of oncoming traffic when pupils and parents are crossing the road.

The PCSO has asked the school to make you aware that at these key times they plan to be present and will be speaking to parents and carers about parking safely, further, should they see a cause for concern, they have also confirmed that parking tickets may be issued.

Please help us make the local area safer for all of our pupils, as well as members of the public.

Thank you.

THE BIG AMBITION

We have been asked by the Children's Commissioner for England to share the survey for the national campaign "The Big Ambition" with our school community.

Children or parents can complete the survey here: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition . Further resources are available on our website.  See this leaflet.

It is really important that the pupils at Staynor Hall Primary Academy participate in The Big Ambition survey and have their say.

The Children's Commissioner wants to ensure that the voices of the children in North Yorkshire are fairly represented in the findings so that she can share their views with the most senior members of the country.

Further, it is vital that all children have their voice heard through this survey because the Children's Commissioner has a statutory duty to protect and promote the views and interests of children. The Big Ambition provides a much-needed opportunity for the children of England to tell political decision makers what is important to them ahead of the General Election. The Children's Commissioner will be sharing their responses with Government to ensure that children’s voices are heard.

This survey is for all children aged 0-18, parents, carers / other adults can complete on behalf of children who are under 6 or for children who need extra assistance.

This is a great opportunity to teach children about politics and why it is important for them to use their voice!
