Our Coaching Priorities
Create a great experience for every one of our athletes. We want them to learn to enjoy running, become better athletes, and embrace the process of growth through effort
Growth - No matter where each athlete starts, we will emphasize and celebrate growth. Success will not be measured by trophies but by personal breakthroughs and improvements.
Develop as Individuals - We will encourage our athletes to grow as people, whether it be learning grit, being patient with others, developing sportsmanship, or learning to become a leader
Team Bond - While cross country is in some ways an individual sport, we believe that we can only achieve our goals through a strong team bond. We want to build a group of young people who will trust each other, rely on each other, push each other, and inspire each other
Positive Energy - This is the foundation for all that we are going to do this year. We promise to bring positive energy to our practices and meets every single day and do all that we can to create a team culture that does the same
Our Expectations
Every runner will be at every required practice with a good attitude and ready to give great effort. Cross country is a sport that requires our athletes to work hard in order to make improvements, and we will expect great effort every day. If we feel an athlete is not trying, we will reach out to parents to discuss. We reserve the right to hold athletes out of meets if they display poor effort or attitude consistently.
Every runner is expected to exhibit the characteristics of sportsmanship, citizenship, and respect at all times. This includes actions in the classroom, on social media, and outside of school. Runners who fail to meet our expectations can be suspended from competing, counseled, or removed from the team depending on the severity of the offense.
Our athletes are students first, athletes second. If a runner is struggling in the classroom, we will meet to discuss a plan to address the problems. If problems persist, we may require our runners to stay after school for help before coming to practice.
