Advanced Placement (AP) Classes

There are 5 advanced placement classes currently offered at East Wake Academy, primarily designed for juniors and seniors. The Advanced Placement Program is operated by the College Board (same as the SAT) who mandates the curriculum taught throughout the nation. In May of each year, students are invited to take the AP exams which, depending on the grade achieved, may grant you college credit at the school you wish to attend. Each college has their own criteria for grades accepted and hours of credit awarded, so it is wise to check with the school of your choice before you take one of these classes or exams. In addition- there are summer assignments for the following classes: AP Literature & Composition

The advantages of taking AP classes are:

  • students are taught on campus by teachers they know

  • there is no tuition for what may become college credits

  • there is no cost for books

Face to face AP classes at EWA include AP English Literature and Composition, AP Language & Composition, AP US Government & Politics, AP Psychology, AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB.

Students may also take AP classes through North Carolina Virtual Public Schools. Please know these courses are year long course and students typically will only receive 1 credit for the course.
