Fall Courses
(Beginner-Intermediate course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on the different aspects of dance and how they all contribute. Students will learn about improvisation and how it is used in creating dance, the elements of dance (time, space, and energy), create short dances, understand locomotor and nonlocomotor movements, stillness in dance, dance vocabulary, and explore various dance techniques. Students will participate in the end of semester dance concert, this is recommended but not required.
(Beginner-Intermediate course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on the different aspects of dance and how they all contribute. Students will be learning about the history of dance, major people who influenced dance, the various cultures behind dance, and the techniques of various styles of dance. The styles of dance being studied are, but are not limited to: ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop/breakdancing, line dancing, and the tinikling dance. Students will participate in the end of semester dance concert, this is recommended but not required.
(Advanced course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on the different aspects of dance and how they all contribute. Students will be able to grow deeper and advance in their dance movement skills/technique within various styles of dance, enhance their dance performance skills, explore the history and culture of dance, grow deeper into their choreographic practices, and analyze and evaluate dance.
*This course is offered both fall and spring as a year long elective course. To take this class, you must go through an audition process that is held in the spring.*
Spring Courses
(Beginner-Intermediate course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on the different aspects of dance and how they all contribute. Students will learn about improvisation and how it is used in creating dance, how to interpret the meanings of dances, how to create dances that communicate meaning, the history of dance, physical health and dance, dance in other circulars, aspects to consider when putting on a dance production, dance vocabulary, and explore various dance techniques. Students will participate in the end of semester dance concert, this is recommended but not required.
(Beginner-Intermediate course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on exploring various techniques and choreographic works in jazz, hip-hop dance, and break dancing. The course will incorporate the movement stylizations within the three styles of dance, specific techniques, history, culture, and important people within the dance styles. Students will participate in the end of semester dance concert, this is recommended but not required.
(Intermediate course)
This course explores movement as a creative art form focusing on improvisation, creating improvisational scores, individual and group choreography using choreographic tools, creating dance by chance, anatomy of the muscles used for dance, various careers in dance, expanding their dance vocabulary, and explore various dance techniques. Students will participate in the end of semester dance concert, this is recommended but not required.
