This course will inform students how individual choices directly influence occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing. Students will design personal and household budgets utilizing checking and saving accounts, gain knowledge in finance, debt and credit management, and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions leading to financial independence.

This is a course that provides students with a general analysis of business on a national and international scale. Students will identify the roles and responsibilities of business in modern society, and focus on selected disciplines and processes within the business community. They will become familiar with the various forms of business organizations, employment practices, and the role business plays in our economy. Business structures, cultures and functions are identified and the political, social, economic, technological and ethical considerations affecting business are introduced. Students throughout the course will practice soft skills that are essential for success in the 21st century workplace.

Students will acquire/expand the following skills: analytical/research, computer, technical literacy, problem solving, reasoning, creativity and teamwork.

This course will teach students what it takes to market a product or service in today's fast-paced business environment. Students will learn the fundamentals of marketing using real-world business examples. Students will learn about consumer and business marketing, product planning and management, buyer behavior, marketing research principles, demand analysis, distribution, financing, pricing and promotion. Students will discover how marketing integrates with other business disciplines, including social media. **see special note

The School to Careers program is a school-business partnership that is designed to provide students with a valuable learning experience with the possibility of advanced skill training in a particular career field. The goal of the ESC School to Careers program is to provide a strong academic program with choices of a career focus for post-secondary courses and appropriate competency-based job specific skills in a professional setting. Also, through the coursework and work experience, School to Careers develops life skill competencies: There are three core elements in East Sac County’s School to Careers focus: school-Based Learning, career knowledge and job seeking and job keeping skills, and work-based learning.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of business communications and provides the opportunity to develop and practice communication skills; both written and oral. A simple three-step writing process that works for all types of writing/speaking projects, for school and work, addresses the strategies for today’s communication challenges, including the job search. Business communication differs from personal and social communication in addressing business use of email, blogs, social networks, podcasts, and other technologies professionally in marketing, servicing, and creating strong business relationships.
