Introduction to Art
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: None
This course is an introduction to the elements and principles of art as well as an exploration of various media.
Students will learn basic drawing, shading, sculpture, art history, and art criticism. Students are required to
participate in end-of-project critiques.
Drawing 1
Grade 9, 10, 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Intro. to Art
This course is an introductive study of the drawing process including various techniques to aid in improving
drawing skills. Students are required to participate in end-of-project critiques.
Drawing 2
Grade: 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Drawing 1
This course is an advanced in-depth study of the drawing process including various techniques to aid in improving
drawing skills. Students are required to participate in end-of-project critiques.
Painting 1
Grade: 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Intro. to Art & Drawing 1
This course will provide students a basic study in painting techniques and color theory. Students will explore
various methods and mediums to develop their skills through form, content and technique. Mediums will include
tempera, watercolor, and acrylic. Students are required to participate in end-of-project critiques.
Painting 2
Grade: 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Painting 1
This course is an advanced in-depth study of the painting process including various techniques to aid in improving
painting skills and techniques. Students will explore various methods and mediums to develop their skills through
art history, form, content and technique. Mediums will include tempera, watercolor, and acrylic. Students are
required to participate in end-of-project critiques.
Sculpture 1
Grade: 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Intro. to Art
This course will provide students an introductory study in three-dimensional design techniques. Students will
explore various methods and mediums to develop their skills through form, content and technique. Materials to be
explored may include paper, clay, wire, paper Mache, and mixed media. Students are required to participate in
end-of-project critiques.
Sculpture 2
Grade: 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Sculpture 1
This course will provide students an intensive study in three-dimensional design techniques. Students will explore
various methods and mediums to continue to develop their skills through form, content and technique. Students
are required to participate in end-of-project critiques.
Independent Art Studio
Grade: 12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: Instructor approval
The student chooses areas of study and uses the time as studio time to create, explore, and expand artistic
knowledge and experience. The grading system for this class is strictly based on the student's ability to work
independently on a daily basis, and to set and reflect upon weekly goals. The student will create a portfolio of their
work, and display chosen works at the Spring Fine Arts Show.
