Ms. Heimsoth is a 6th-8th grade Health, Wellness, and Fitness teacher at Eyer Middle School. She has a passion for living an active, healthy lifestyle and loves inspiring her students to do the same. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Shippensburg University and later received her teaching degree from Wilson College.
Outside of the classroom, she coaches volleyball and enjoys playing the sport herself. Her goal is to help each of her students become the greatest version of themselves—physically, mentally, and emotionally. She is excited to support her studnets on their health and wellness journey!

In middle school health, students will explore a variety of essential topics that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The course is designed to help students make informed decisions and adopt healthy habits that last a lifetime. Key units include:
Conflict Resolution: Students will learn strategies to resolve conflicts peacefully and effectively, promoting healthy relationships.
Decision Making: Focused on helping students develop skills to make responsible and informed choices in their daily lives.
Stress: Understanding the causes and effects of stress, and how to manage and cope with it in a healthy way.
Health: A broad exploration of overall wellness, including physical, mental, and social health.
Nutrition: Students will gain knowledge about healthy eating habits, balanced diets, and the importance of proper nutrition for growth and energy.
Circulation: A look at the circulatory system, including the heart and blood vessels, and how they work together to deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
Respiration: Understanding the respiratory system and how the body takes in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide.
Digestion: Learning how the digestive system processes food, absorbs nutrients, and eliminates waste.
Excretion: Focus on the body's waste elimination processes and maintaining a healthy urinary and digestive system.
Immune System: Students will learn about the body's defense mechanisms and how the immune system protects against illness.
Endocrine System: A study of the glands and hormones that regulate growth, metabolism, and mood.
Decision Making: Students will learn strategies for making informed, responsible decisions that support their health and well-being.
Health: An overview of physical, mental, and emotional health, helping students understand the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
Skeletal System: Exploring the structure and function of bones, joints, and the role the skeletal system plays in supporting and protecting the body.
Muscular System: Students will learn about the muscles and how they work together to allow movement, support posture, and maintain balance.
Nervous System: A look into the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, and how the nervous system controls body functions and allows us to react to stimuli.
Violence: Understanding the causes and effects of violence, and learning strategies for conflict resolution and maintaining peaceful relationships.
Media and Advertising: Students will explore how media and advertising influence their decisions and how to critically evaluate the messages they encounter.
Exercise: The benefits of regular physical activity, how exercise affects the body, and ways to incorporate exercise into daily life for better health.
Endocrine System: An introduction to the glands and hormones that regulate key body functions, including growth, metabolism, and mood.
In middle school Physical Education, students will engage in a variety of fun and dynamic activities designed to develop their physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Throughout the course, students will participate in a range of team sports and games that focus on skill-building, strategy, and having fun while staying active. The key units include:
Pickleball: Students will learn the basics of this fast-paced racket sport, including rules, strategies, and how to improve their hand-eye coordination.
Badminton: Focus on mastering the techniques for serving, hitting, and scoring in badminton, while building agility and reflexes.
Volleyball: An introduction to the fundamentals of volleyball, including serving, passing, setting, and spiking, as well as teamwork and communication on the court.
Basketball: Students will develop their basketball skills, such as dribbling, shooting, and defense, while learning about teamwork, strategy, and game flow.
Capture the Flag: A fun and energetic team-based game where students will work together to capture the opposing team’s flag while defending their own, promoting strategy, teamwork, and physical fitness.
Soccer: Students will focus on developing soccer skills like passing, dribbling, and shooting, while learning the importance of teamwork, positioning, and strategy.
Flag Football: An introduction to flag football, where students will learn how to throw, catch, and run with the ball, as well as the rules of the game and the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
This physical education course is designed to keep students active, engaged, and motivated while teaching them a variety of sports skills and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through exercise and friendly competition.
