School Hours/Arrival/Dismissal: Student arrival is between 8:45-9:00 AM. Dismissal is at 3:20 PM. Early dismissal time is at 12:30. If your child arrives late to school (after 9:00 AM) you will need to escort them into school.
If there are any changes to your child's dismissal routine (bus change, early pick up, etc) please call the office to let them know of the change as I do not always see messages until after the school day. They will then let me know.
Daily Folders - Your child will receive a blue take home folder at the beginning of the year. This folder will come home each night and should come back to school every morning. Here you will find homework, completed work from the day and important papers that may need to be reviewed, signed, and returned to school.
If you have notes for me or the office, please put them in the folder on the "Return To School" side. Please check folders each night and remove any papers on the "Keep At Home" side. Some nights the folder will be empty, but please still send back to school the next day. Your child will give me their folder and any notes from home.
Snacks/Water Bottles - We will allot time for a "working snack" during the afternoon. Snacks should be opened independently. Pretzels, crackers, granola bars, carrots/celery, fruit snacks, etc. are some ideas. Please do not send in candy or large "family size" bags of snacks.
Due to health needs and allergies, all snacks MUST BE NUT FREE.
Water bottles are permitted throughout the day and can stay on your child's desk. Only water is permitted - please no gatorade, juice, soda, etc. Water bottles should be labeled with your child's name.
Birthdays - We love celebrating birthdays in Room 109 and can't wait to enjoy your child's special day! Non-Edible treats are welcomed for birthdays - in the past, parents have sent goodie bags, pop-its, bracelets, pencils, and more! We will celebrate on or near your child's birthday if it falls over a weekend or holiday. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June prior to the last day of school.
Homework - In first grade, the most important thing to do at home each night is PLAY! Your child works hard all day long and after school, I believe they should spend their time doing things they enjoy. Reading at home is always encouraged. This year, students will receive an optional monthly homework calendar with some activities that can be completed within 15 minutes or so at home.
