Welcome to Macungie!
I live in Emmaus with my husband, Scott, and two children, Greg (1 year) and Allie (9 years). Although my children are almost 9 years apart, they are the most amazing sibling duo I could ever want. I am incredibly fortunate! We are also graced by the presence of our kitty Bluebell, when she is in the mood to be around others.
I graduated from Lehigh University in 2010 with my Masters in Education and a dual certification in Special Education (N-21) and Elementary Education (K-6). Since then, I have experienced teaching from ages 3-21, but found the elementary level and special education to be the most fulfilling! I have taught in several districts and states, but now find myself teaching in my very own neighborhood. Hi neighbors!
Teaching is a second career for me. I first graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (and a major in marketing) from the University of Pittsburgh. GO PITT! I did some event planning, sports marketing, then morphed into the fashion industry working in NYC. After a few years in NYC, I decided it was time for a change. Enough about shoes, I wanted to teach! The rest is history!
I believe every student should be held to high expectations and taught with positive behavioral supports. When we raise expectations, students meet them. Kids are amazing and should be celebrated! I enjoy figuring out how kids learn best, then adjusting my teaching so they can succeed. Laughing while learning together is my favorite way to teach. Let's make every day AMAZING!
Some fun facts about me include:
I LOVE exploring the world and traveling! I circumnavigated the globe with Semester at Sea (exploring 10 countries over the course of a semester), then graduated with my Bachelors degree on board of the SS Explorer, while crossing the Pacific Ocean.
I was fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) during college. It is my goal to become fluent again and involved in the ASL community, here in the Lehigh Valley.
I am a large supporter of music. The ability to play an instrument can help academically in math (oh how I hated fractions!), shift our mood and take us places. I can play the flute and piccolo and in turn was able to travel to many different places in high school. My high school (Liberty High School of Bethlehem, PA) even performed with the Queen's very own Coldstream Guard! My daughter just started playing the flute this year and now we can play duets together.
When I have a spare minute: I love to bake, grab an iced coffee, garden, ice skate, roller skate, run and row. My favorite color is green.
After living in NYC for several years, I decided there was more to life than fashion. So I left to teach in Hawaii. I miss my Hawaiian ohana (family) every day, but needed to come home after several years to my family here in the Lehigh Valley.
The beach is my happy place...in particular, Assateague Island, MD. My family has gone camping here every year since they opened in the 70's.
I firmly believe if you want something, then you should make it happen! Sometimes this means you need to pivot and start again, but anything is possible!!
