461 BIOLOGY, ADVANCED PLACEMENT
(Grades 10-12) AP Biology is an introductory college-level biology course designed to prepare students for the AP Biology Exam. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes, energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology, and interactions. It is equivalent to a two-semester college introductory biology course for biology majors. 25 percent of the instructional time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices. Students should have successfully completed high school courses in biology and chemistry. This course includes a summer assignment. (Fulfills STEM requirement for graduation)
Prerequisites: Recommended 80% or better in Biology 1, Honors and Chemistry 1, Honors, or 90% or better in Biology 1 and Chemistry 1 CP
