Willow Lane Elementary School
Lisa Van Ormer is a dedicated kindergarten teacher at Willow Lane Elementary School, where she helps to set the foundation for a child's educational journey through a classroom environment that is caring, fun, and engaging to all learners.
Mrs. Van Ormer has a passion for engaging students in both academic and social development for 25 years now. She meets the unique needs of each child, ensuring that every student feels valued and confident. By communicating and collaborating with families, students feel supported at school and home where they can learn and grow.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Van Ormer enjoys spending time with her family, running, and going on walks.
Kindergarten helps children build the foundation for future learning, focusing on both academic growth and social development in a playful, nurturing environment. Mrs. Van Ormer believes in helping children learn through teaching skills in a fun and interactive way. She also promotes showing kindness and respect through all interactions daily while learning and developing friendships. The core curriculum areas are below:
Through Harmony Curriculum units we focus on developing skills to understand and manage emotions, set goals, and build relationships. We do this through reading stories, playing games, and discussions/acting out situations based on the topic for the day.
In small group and whole group ELA instruction throughout the day, we focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, handwriting, shared reading, interactive reading, daily 5 stations with guided reading, word work, and writing stories. There is a technology component as well called Lexia Core 5 which is a systematic and structured approach to six areas of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, structural analysis, automaticity/fluency, and comprehension.
Math instruction is both small group and whole group daily. It has a technology component daily as well which provides a personal learning path for each student. Daily math is hands on using math manipulatives like counters, unifex cubes, work mats, counting bears, dominoes, etc... Students share their mathematical thinking with one another and learn from one another too.
In our classroom we share supplies at each table. There are supply bins at each table which allows students to learn how to sort supplies and keep them organized as a table "team". This also provides easy access to daily supplies needed and then the teacher refills the bins when needed.
You can always email me with questions, but the best way to see what we're doing in class and for daily communication is below.
This is my primary means of communication. I will send out weekly updates on Seesaw.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.
