In 6th and 7th grade music classes we discuss units of history, theory and performance.
In 6th grade we discuss Medieval/Renaissance Periods of Music and the Baroque Period of Music. In 7th grade we discuss the Classical Period of Music and the Romantic Period of Music. We listen to examples of music from famous composers and understand common traits that occurred and musical developments and advancements.
In this unit students are taught basic music concepts to help them be able to play keyboards. This includes basic vocabulary, symbols, and meanings when reading music.
Students will learn multiple songs on the keyboards and play them for the teacher. Students then get the option to perform them for the class.
The focus in 8th grade music classes is Film Music and History of Rock n' Roll.
In this unit, we go into the progression of Rock n' Roll music from 1950's through the 1990's. Each decade sparks new genres and artists into the our music history. Through listening and videos students will get to experience the music through the ages.
In this unit, students will get to learn many terms and styles of music used in movies and television series. Students will then get to dive in and make a short film and add these music elements to enhance their project.
