Alburtis Elementary School
Abigail Hoosier is a dedicated fifth-grade ELA and social studies teacher at Alburtis Elementary School, where she brings her passion for reading to her students. A proud graduate of Kutztown University and the East Penn School District, Mrs. Hoosier feels so fortunate to teach in the community that she has always called home.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Hoosier is involved in coaching k-2 lacrosse and field hockey , fostering teamwork and resilience on and off the field. At Alburtis Elementary, she works alongside her partner, Mrs. Barry, the school’s dynamic 5th grade math and science teacher, creating a well-rounded and inspiring learning environment for students.
When she's not teaching or coaching, Mrs. Hoosier loves spending time with her family hiking, exploring nature, listening to live music, and reading. Her son, Jake, currently serves in the U.S. Air Force, and her daughter attends elementary school in the EPSD.
In fifth grade social studies, we tackle a variety of Units of Study throughout the three trimesters. The outline below provides a quick summary of each module for Social Studies. In ELA, we explore a variety of different genres and work to develop skills needed to comprehend complex texts, expand our written responses to show an in-depth understanding of the text, and develop our writing skills.
In this unit, students will explore the foundations of the United States government, focusing on the three branches, their roles, and how they work together. Through interactive activities and discussions, students will gain an understanding of civic responsibilities and the importance of active participation in a democratic society.
In this unit, students will learn the basics of economics, including concepts like goods and services, supply and demand, and the role of money in trade. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, they will explore how choices impact individuals, communities, and the global economy.
In this unit, students will learned about what makes different cultures and regions around the world unique. The students will explore how life and the way people live are impacted by where they live. They will learn how human characteristics of places and regions make that area unique.

You can always email me with questions, but the best way to see what we're doing in class and if your child has assignments coming up is by getting connected on the following two programs!
This is my primary means of communication. I will send out weekly updates on Seesaw.
Students will receive digital assignments and assessments in Google Classroom.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.
