Mark Scisly is a dedicated Health and Wellness/Fitness teacher at Lower Macungie Middle School, where he makes exercise and health important with engaging lessons that spark curiosity and a love of learning in his students. A proud graduate of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, Mr. Scisly combines his passion for education with a commitment to helping young minds understand the the importance of health and exercise. Alongside his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Mr. Scisly holds a master's degree in Sports Administration from West Chester University.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Scisly shares his leadership skills as an assistant varsity football coach for the Emmaus Hornets high school football team, fostering teamwork and resilience on and off the field. At Lower Macungie Middle School, he works alongside his partner, Mrs. Wikert, creating a well-rounded and inspiring learning environment for all students.
When he's not teaching or coaching, Mr. Scisly is involved in the Lower Macungie Community guiding a variety of youth sports for his children. He is also an avid Star Wars fan and devoted collector of football cards.
At LMMS, we tackle a variety of Units of Study in Health and Wellness/Fitness throughout their three years. The outline below provides a quick summary of three course that I teach.
In 8th grade, class activities emphasize grasping the knowledge of game concepts, the importance of personal fitness, and the ability to relate team sports to life.
In 7th grade, the students are introduced to team sports. Skill development continues to be emphasized within the game setting. Personal fitness goals are also addressed daily.
The students are provided with opportunities to learn about: the normal function of the body systems; the major causes of illness/death; personal risk assessment, and the proper health practice/decisions that are beneficial to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle (wellness).
8th and 7th Grade Wellness/Fitness Dress Requirements:
All students will dress in shorts, t-shirts, and SNEAKERS (Crocs are NOT sneakers) for activity
Gym clothes must be DIFFERENT than what is worn to school
Clothes will have no inappropriate words, pictures, etc, and cover a student well (See School Dress Code Guidelines)
Sweatshirts and sweatpants may be worn in addition to gym clothes
Students may not wear ANY jewelry other than post earrings (this includes nose piercings) and fitness trackers APPROVED by the fitness teacher. Accommodations will be made for medical and/or religious reasons. This comes with the understanding that any lost or stolen jewelry or injury to personal self or other participants during Wellness/Fitness due to their jewelry is the responsibility of the student and not East Penn School District. The Wellness/Fitness Department recommends students remove ALL jewelry while participating in class.
6th Grade Health Supplies:
Everyday for class all students should have a charged chromebook, earbuds/headphones, and a pencil.
You can always email me with questions, but the best way to see what we're doing in class and if your child has assignments coming up is by getting connected on Schoology!
Students will receive digital assignment and assessment in Schoology. Please see schoology for updated grades and rubrics.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.
