In Eighth grade, we tackle a variety of Units of Study throughout the three trimesters. The outline below provides a quick summary of each module.
In this unit students will learn and practice how to write a proper 5 paragraph essay utlilizing the RACES format. In this format students are sure to provide context for their ideas, make a claim or thesis statement when answering a prompt and provide text evidence in the form of properly cited quotations.
In this unit, students will read a variety of myths and short stories in order to cover the concepts of plot, theme, symbolism, mood and tone. Making inferences, previewing vocab and identifying central ideas are the cornerstones of this unit.
In this unit, students will craft their own fantasy or science fiction story in order to demonstrate their knowledge of plot, point of view and genre when writing.
You don't need all of these supplies. We will have some available in the classroom for all students to use.
