Hello and welcome! I’m Justin Dahlquist, and I’m thrilled to guide your student through an exciting year of learning mathematics. I believe that math is not just about numbers and formulas – it’s about problem-solving, creativity, and developing critical thinking skills that will serve you in every area of life.
With 12 years of teaching experience, I’m passionate about making math engaging and accessible to every student. My teaching journey has allowed me to witness the growth and success of students who once struggled with math, and I’m excited to share the joy and empowerment that comes with mastering mathematical concepts.
Teaching Approach: Rotational Learning & Station Rotations
In our classroom, we use rotational learning and station rotations to create an interactive and dynamic environment. These strategies allow us to break down lessons into manageable chunks, so our students can work at their own pace and get more personalized support. Through hands-on activities, collaborative group work, and technology tools, our students will experience math in various ways, helping them to deeply understand the material and make connections across different topics.
This approach also ensures that students stay engaged and challenged – but always with the support they need. I believe that every student can succeed in math, and I am dedicated to helping them discover their strengths and build confidence along the way.
Classroom Culture: Supportive, Rigorous, and Engaging
Our classroom is a place where mistakes are part of the learning process and where every student’s voice is valued. We will work together as a team, where respect, collaboration, and hard work are central to everything we do. The classroom is supportive, rigorous, and designed to challenge you while fostering a love for learning.
Through engaging lessons and interactive activities, I aim to inspire students to see math as a valuable tool in the world around them. My goal is for students to leave this class not only with a solid understanding of math concepts but also with the confidence to tackle any challenges that come their way.
Learning Goals
By the end of this year, your student will have a deeper understanding of algebra, geometry, operations, and statistics and be prepared for the next level of math. But beyond the content, they will have learned critical problem-solving skills, how to approach complex challenges, and the resilience to keep going, even when something seems difficult at first. Math isn’t just about solving problems – it’s about thinking creatively and finding innovative solutions.
In 7th-grade, students are enrolled in Math Course 2, which bridges elementary concepts and Algebra 1, Geometry, and Statistics.
Some years, 7th and 8th-grade students in my Math classes are enrolled in Algebra 1 Honors. This course builds on the foundations established in Math Course 2 and Math Course 1. Students enrolled have skipped Math Course 3. The pre-algebra concepts taught in Math Course 3 are taught within the Algebra 1 course.
2 packs of #2 pencils (pre-sharpened preferred)
2 dry-erase markers (low odor)
TI-30X IIS Calculator (Recommended - We have some for classroom use)
1 pocket folders
1 Subject Notebook Paper
1 set of headphones or earbuds (for classroom technology use)
You can always email me with questions, but the best way to see what we're doing in class and if your child has assignments coming up is by getting connected on Schoology.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.
