Child Care Unit - first 10 days of class

Topics that are discussed:

  • Ages and Stages of Child Development - Infant, Toddler, Preschooler
  • Babysitting Skills
  • Strategies to handle emergency situtations when caring for children
  • Importance of reading to young children
  • Importance of play and age appropriate safe toys for children

  • Ed Puzzles- Ages and stages, Chocking hazards
  • Evaluate a toy

Food Lab - ~ the 2nd or 3rd unit of FCS, 17 days long

Topics that are discussed:

  • Kitchen Safety
  • Basic Measuring Techniques
  • My Plate
  • Common Kitchen Equipment
  • Basic Table Setting
  • Food Labs - Students work in groups to create recipes

Graded Assignments

  • Recipe Assignment - Students create a recipe at home

Textiles Unit/ Sewing Unit ~ the 2nd or 3rd unit of FCS, 17 days long

Students create a stuff bag using a sewing machine in class

Graded Assignments

  • Stuff Bag
  • Bean Bag if time permits

Both projects are good introductory projects for beginner sewers. Students will be supplied with all materials for this project, but will be able to make their own color selections. The majority of the grade for this unit is based on completing the sewing project and class participation. The project must be completed in class under the guidance of the teacher

*Extra Help for FCS is offered EVERY day 9th period*

Students must get a pass from their FCS teacher to attend extra help.
