6th Grade Social Studies with Mrs. Reinert
We have an exciting year ahead of us! To start the year, we will learn about the geography of our world and archaeology. Both of these topics are a large focus of each civilization that we will study, and we need to have a solid foundation to build upon. Students are expected to name and locate the 7 continents and 4 major oceans and utilize map skills as well as interpret primary sources to learn more about the past.
Our studies throughout the year will focus on four important questions: How do people analyze the past? What are the benefits of living together? How does a civilization impact daily life? How do civilizations survive?
Get your passports ready! We will be embarking on a time-traveling journey throughout our ancient world, stopping in Europe, Asia and Africa. This year, our tentative journey includes the beginnings of human society, The Fertile Crescent, Ancient Egypt and Nubia, Ancient Greece, Ancient India, Ancient China, and Ancient Rome. We will embark on virtual field trips, create our own civilizations as we learn about how landforms affected early people, and sing songs together to help us learn the content. It's going to be a great year!
You can always e-mail me with questions, but the best way to see what we are doing in class is through your child's Schoology learning platform and our Team Incredible Homework Website.
You can also reach me by phone at 610-395-8593, extension 26420. If you have an urgent message for your child (forgot lunch/gym clothes, change in transportation, etc.), please contact the office directly, so that we can be sure your child gets this message in a timely manner. Thanks!
You will need a 2-pocket folder, wired earbuds or headphones, and sharpened pencils with erasers.
A 12-pack of colored pencils is recommended, but not mandatory, as we will have some available in the classroom.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.
