While 5-6 students are working with the teacher on the leveled books, other students are doing independent work that was taught to them previously throughout the school year.
Interactive Read Aloud: Students listen to a book provided by the F and P program. Students will discuss certain aspects of the book that pertain to various themes and skills they will learn throughout the year.
Focus Skill Lessons: Students will learn different skills that are important to enhancing their learning experience and success in fourth grade. Examples include: Summarizing, Plot, Theme, and Genres.
Close Reading: Students will work on a short passage every other week on a fourth grade reading level. The teacher will read the passage to them twice while reviewing the main points in the story. This familiarizes students with the text in order to reread it efficiently while answering comprehension questions.
Word Study: Students will be focusing on different letter blends, parts, or meanings. It will help their reading fluency as well as their understanding of fourth grade vocabulary skills.
