Course Outline for Grade 6 Students

Part I: CHILD CARE UNIT 10 school days

Topics include: Child Development ~ Infant, toddler, and preschool children, babysitting skills and strategies to handle emergency situations when caring for children

ASSESSMENT: Multiple Ed Puzzles - 3 points each and Babysitter Ad - 15 points

The test is based on information/notes/class discussions provide in the child care packet

Part II: FOOD LAB 17 school days

Topics include: Kitchen safety, basic measuring techniques. my plate, common kitchen equipment and basic table setting

Food Labs - Students work in groups to create recipes

ASSESSMENTS: Foods Labs ~ 25 points and Recipe Assignment ~ 15 points


PART III: TEXTILE UNIT 17 school days

Topics Include: Parts of the sewing machine and basic sewing equipment

ASSESSMENT: Stuff Bag ~ 72 point project

This project is a great for beginning sewers. All materials necessary for these projects will be supplied. There is no paperwork or test in this unit, therefore the textiles unit is based on completing the sewing project and class participation. Projects MUST be completed in class under the guidance of the teacher.


The following recipes are included in the 6th Grade Food Lab.
