I was born on December 3rd in Skippack, PA, and after about six years my family moved to a very rural town called Schwenksville. I have lived in Pennsylvania my whole life, and I think it is an incredible state. We have so much history right at our fingertips from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the Philadelphia Eagles (only the greatest NFL franchise ever...in my opinion!). I grew up being the youngest of five with one brother and three sisters. Life growing up consisted of playing a lot sports, taking care of a lot of animals (at one point we had 22 cats!), and constantly being surrounded by family and friends.
When it came time to make a decision about where I would attend college, I chose Lehigh University. Not only is the campus absolutely breathtaking, but I was also given the opportunity to play my favorite sport....LACROSSE!!!! I graduated in 2006 with a B.S. in Finance and Marketing, but I felt that my life was meant to go down a different path. My lacrosse coach gave me an opportunity to coach for two years while obtaining my Master's. I accepted the position and earned my Master's of Elementary Education in May 2008. This was a very worthwhile experience for me because I believe coaches and teachers have much in common. You always need to have a plan, but also be able to think on your feet when things do not always go as planned. You need to be positive at all times, you have to create many different strategies, you have to build an atmosphere in which each individual feels comfortable,...and the list goes on!
Some of my hobbies include: reading, traveling, running, hiking, biking, swimming, volleyball, basketball, and of course...lacrosse! I just love playing sports and keeping active! Some of my favorite musicians/bands are: Coldplay, Adele, DMB, and Dispatch. I enjoy listening to music anywhere from Blues to Classic Rock. My favorite color is green!! My favorite food is cereal!! I could eat it all of the time! My favorite author growing up was Chris Van Allsburg, and my favorite book that you can find in my library is Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. I love having animals around (when I was younger I wanted to be a vet!). My family always had a variety of animals growing up! We had cats, dogs, horses, and fish...it was a very busy house!
I married my best friend (Mr. Shutte) on December 23, 2010. We were blessed with our first child (Charlie) on November 1, 2011 (11/1/11!!!). Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we had our 2nd son Henry on July 3, 2013. Then, we finally had our little girl Claire on February 9, 2015. We love being together as a family! We were crazy enough to get a dog in February 2021. His name is Teddy! I cannot wait to share stories with you about our crazy life! :)
This is my 16th year in the EPSD. I taught one year in both 5th and 4th. I taught 6 years in Kindergarten and 3 years in 2nd grade. I was "promoted" to 6th grade in the middle of 2020, and am excited to continue working with the great students on Team Xtreme!
