Mrs. Kamilia Scantlebury, a graduate of Hampton University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, has crafted a remarkable journey that encompasses both education and leadership. She embarked on her teaching career over 16 years ago, making a meaningful impact on the lives of students in both Newark, NJ, and East Orange, NJ. Her unwavering commitment to equality and justice has driven her to dedicate her life to teaching and educational leadership. With a strong academic foundation and a passion for making a difference, Mrs. Scantlebury has made significant strides in her career, embodying the values of equity and empowerment. 

After graduating from Hampton University, Mrs. Scantlebury’s pursuit of knowledge led her to Long Island University, where she earned an M.B.A. in Management. This additional qualification broadened her horizons, providing her with a strong managerial background that would become instrumental in her future leadership roles. Mrs. Scantlebury’s thirst for knowledge didn't stop there. She went on to obtain a master's degree in Educational Leadership from St. Peter's University, solidifying her commitment to improving the education system and fostering equality in schools.

In 2019, Mrs. Scantlebury transitioned from being a classroom teacher to the Culture and Climate Specialist at Patrick F. Healy Middle School. In this role, she spearheaded initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for both students and staff. Her commitment to improving the overall culture of the school reflected her dedication to increasing student achievement.

In 2023, she was promoted to Assistant Principal at Patrick F. Healy Middle School, a testament to her leadership skills and commitment to educational excellence. Her promotion was not only a recognition of her abilities but also an affirmation of her dedication to closing the achievement gap and promoting equity in education.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Scantlebury has remained steadfast in her commitment to staff, students and their families. Mrs. Scantlebury's journey from a journalism major at Hampton University to an Assistant Principal at Patrick F. Healy Middle School is a testament to her unwavering dedication to education, equity, and justice. Her passion for storytelling, coupled with her commitment to making a difference, continues to inspire those around her.
