The Year of Collaboration
Gifted students have unique needs that persist throughout the day. Most gifted students spend most of their time in general education classrooms, where academic abilities are differentiated.
Collaboration beyond the classroom setting is essential for understanding the specific needs of gifted students. It also helps address issues related to the underrepresentation of specific populations in gifted programs. Furthermore, collaboration allows teachers to provide enrichment opportunities within core instruction, benefiting all students.
ELEMENTARY
Gifted case managers will meet with each student on their caseload AT LEAST once per trimester one-on-one. Case managers will document the meeting in the Progress Reporting area of the GIEP.
To help support students within the core, teachers will push in to support students and teachers on extensions to the curriculum. Gifted teachers will use Intervention and Extension time for case management and meeting with individual students.
The intention is to have 5th graders engage in student-led GIEP meetings and have that extend into their Middle School experiences.
Easton Area Middle School
Gifted Support teachers will push into the core to support students and teachers on extensions to the curriculum. The gifted team will create opportunities to extend the core curriculum. Gifted Support teachers will roll out core extensions and curtail individual student strengths through case management in enrichment periods. All students will have access to create extensions, focusing on GIEP goal progress and individual Specially Designed Instruction for identified students. In addition, students can/will receive grades for work in their core content areas.
Easton Area High School
Gifted case managers will meet with each student on their caseload AT LEAST once per marking period one-on-one. This meeting will be documented by the case manager in the Progress Reporting area of the GIEP.
Advisory will balance GIEP goal-related work, principal-directed activities, and time to balance school work. In addition, gifted advisory teachers will allow GIEP goal-related work to be completed during advisory.
This year, our students can participate in the Lehigh Valley Science & Engineering Fair at Lehigh University. This competition allows students to explore an area of interest and put it to the test against peers from all over the valley, region, and potentially nationally and internationally.
