In 2016, John Reinhart, superintendent of schools of the Easton Area School District, formed the Diversity Alliance to address equity concerns expressed by district employees and community members. The members of the Diversity Alliance consisted of teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and community members. In total, over 40 district employees and residents worked together over a two-year period of time to create the 2016-2021 Diversity Alliance Plan. As was shared in the Statement of Purpose, “Through the adoption of this plan, the Easton Area School District is committed to the principles and practices of education that recognize and celebrate diversity as an essential ingredient to the success of a democratic society and to the fulfillment of the school district’s mission to “Prepare each student for a future of lifelong learning”.

In 2020, new superintendent David Piperato, met with the original members of the Diversity Alliance and began the process of assessing the team’s progress. Members expressed a need to revisit the plan and to focus specifically on six areas of concern. A subcommittee was formed for each of the following: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Support and Opportunities, Culture and Climate, Discipline and Policing, Professional Development and Training, and Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention. Each committee is led by a district administrator and has worked tirelessly to identify areas of concern, research potential solutions, and write specific action plans. Over the course of the 2020, 2021, and 2022 school years, the Diversity Alliance’s six subcommittee members have written, revised, and activated their action plans. The work continues today.
