The Capstone Experience Course is a graduation requirement for all students from East Haven High School. It is a culminating activity that provides a way for students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their secondary school years. All Capstone projects have a research component and reflect higher order thinking and inquiry-based processes. Capstone Projects include developing a Product or Service, a Campaign or Event, an Experiment, Analysis, or an Investigation and a Performance or Instruction. The Capstone Experience Course encompasses real life skill building as students create resumes, write letters, conduct outreach, create digital portfolios and speak in a public setting as they present their work. The presentation of the Capstone Projects take place before an Assessment Panel of community and educational volunteers.
For the first time in many students lives, this is the first opportunity for them to be able to take control of their learning. They have the ability to choose a viable project and see it to completion. Students should think about what their interests and needs are before entering the class. Projects can be community-service based, but this is not a requirement.
