Program Requirements

Upward Bound program has goals set for TRIO students to prepare them for college and is based on the students' grade level.

The goals listed below are to be done throughout the year, with all requirements to be completed by the end of the students' academic year.

Exceptions and flexibility exist! Reach out to UB staff with questions, comments, and concerns.

Yearly Requirements (All)

Yearly Upward Bound Annual Contract
Yearly Upward Bound Update Form
Annual Needs Assessment
Update Credit Evaluation Form (Every September/February)
Attend Weekly Meetings or notify Upward Bound Advisor of absences (regular attendance is required for travel to universities)
Use NetTutor on Canvas as needed for tutoring needs
Maintain a Minimum of 3.0 GPA or above
Sign up to receive information from one Washington State college/university of your choice
Start Building a List of Questions for College Recruiters and Tour Guides
Attend a minimum of one 6-week Upward Bound Summer Academy (travel is optional during summer but highly recommended)

Complete a list of questions for college recruiters and tour guides
Sign up to receive information from at least one Washington State college/university of your choice

If considering Running Start following Sophomore Year

Attend Running Start Meeting
Take and pass the required College Placement test before April deadline
Meet with an UB advisor to determine Running Start Classes prior to registration
Register for Running Start prior to April 30th
Place into college level English AND Math prior to June 15th in order for Upward Bound to pay up to $150 in textbook costs
Attend YVC New Student Orientation prior to September of Junior year

Review and Sign Upward Bound Annual Contract
Annual Needs Assessment
Identify four (4) people you can ask for Letters of Recommendation
Letter of Recommendation Request Form Completed
Ask for 2 letters of recommendations from teachers prior to summer break
Attend the Spring Break College Tour
Register for the Spring SAT test
Register for the Spring ACT test
Attend the UB Junior Workshop (Required)
Attend a Junior Event on a a college campus of your choice
Narrow down number of colleges to apply to (4-6)
Begin essays for the Dell Scholarship
Complete the FAFSA Estimator Tool
Set your senior year goals
Credit Evaluation Form (After 1st semester)
Sign up to receive information from one Washington State college/university of your choice
Attend Senior Year Kickoff in August prior to Senior Year

If considering Running Start following Junior Year

Attend Running Start Meeting
Take and pass the required College Placement test before April deadline
Meet with an UB advisor to determine Running Start Classes prior to registration
Register for Running Start prior to April 30th

Review SAT/ACT scores
Join Summer Academy prior to Senior Year for test prep/senior classes
Study for Fall SAT/ACT
Register and prepare to re-take the SAT/ACT before mid-December
Attend the mandatory Senior Kick Off Workshop (summer)
Begin GATES Scholarship application - Due mid-September
Check Scholarship Calendar Weekly
Print out four (4) SAT college application fee waivers
Update Request for Letters of Recommendation Form
Identify four (4) people you can ask for Letters of Recommendation (not already received)
Request minimum of 2 letters of recommendation before mid-October
Begin Dell Scholarship
Attend senior only college tours for the universities/colleges you are interested in
Begin writing your scholarship and personal statements. Send to UB advisor for feedback.
Determine which schools to apply to
Submit three (3) 4-year college applications by December 1
Set up your online student portal account for each college you applied to
Send official transcripts to each of the colleges you appled to
Bring your parent(s)/guardian(s) to the FAFSA workshop
Create your FSA ID
Have your parent(s)/guardian(s) create a FSA ID
Complete your FAFSA. Opens October 1 - UB staff will help you!
Sign FERPA Agreement for Upward Bound
