The Reception children had a fantastic day on their trip to SEA LIFE London Aquarium.
During our visit, we saw many amazing animals, including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, seahorses, penguins, and colourful tropical fish. The children enjoyed walking through the ocean tunnel, where they could watch the sea creatures swimming above and around them.
This week, we have been reading "The Gigantic Turnip". The children have really enjoyed retelling the story using story resources and joining in with the repeated parts. They worked together to act out the story and talk about the different characters.
The children also created some fantastic turnip artwork. They used a variety of materials, including paint, tissue paper and chalk, to make their turnips.
This week in Maths, we have been learning about sharing. The children used a variety of objects to practise sharing fairly between groups. They enjoyed counting and checking that each group had the same amount and were beginning to explain their thinking using mathematical language.
This week, we focused on the story Jasper's Beanstalk. The children enjoyed following Jasper's journey as he cared for his bean seed each day. We talked about what plants need to grow and explored the importance of patience. The children took part in a range of activities linked to the story, including sequencing events, planting seeds, and discussing the changes that happen as plants grow.
As part of our learning linked to Jasper's Beanstalk, we created beautiful beanstalk artwork using a range of craft materials. We also planted our own bean seeds and discussed what plants need to grow, including water, sunlight, and care. The children are excited to observe the changes as their beans begin to grow.
In Maths this week, we explored odd and even numbers. The children used practical resources to sort numbers into odd and even groups and learned that even numbers can be shared equally into two groups, while odd numbers always have one left over. They enjoyed a range of hands-on activities to help develop their understanding and confidence with number patterns.
This week, we have been reading Jim and the Beanstalk. The children enjoyed listening to the story and discussing the characters and events. We explored how Jim helped the giant by using his problem-solving skills and kindness. The children took part in a variety of activities linked to the story, including retelling the events, describing characters, and sharing their ideas about how they would help the giant.
In Maths this week, we explored repeating patterns. The children identified, copied, and created their own repeating patterns using colours, shapes, objects, and movements. The children enjoyed a range of practical activities to develop their understanding of pattern and sequencing.
