Monday 19th May 2025
After a long coach journey, we arrived at Pendarren House. It has been a beautiful spring day and we made the most of the outdoors. We explored the grounds and spent a lovely afternoon discovering streams, forests and meadows.
Did you know that the Welsh word for welcome is croeso?
Tuesday 20th May
Today is our first full, action packed day at Pendarren House. We tucked into a hearty breakfast and then got straight into our days activities.
Groups 1 and 4 were heading out for a mountain walk to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain followed by some mini beast exploration in a local stream and the Pendarren pond. We ALL made it to the top of Sugar Loaf and enjoyed eating our lunch right at the top looking down over the landscapes below. The walk was tough but with perseverance and determination we overcame difficulties and fears to taste success together.
The Pendarren pond had many different creatures for us to discover. We found tadpoles, newts and even really fierce looking dragonfly larvae. We made sure to return all the creatures to their correct habitats.
Groups 2 and 3 headed off to the coast for a day at the seaside. Caswell Bay really is beautiful; with its coastal path walks and huge sandy beach. We bought ice creams and loved jumping in the waves, in the glorious sunshine.
After dinner the author Daniel Morden came to visit and told us some of his captivating stories.
Wednesday 21st May
This morning we woke up to cloudy skies and there was a bit if a chill in the air. By the time we had finished breakfast, had room inspection and sorted out our kit for the day the sun made a very welcome appearance.
Group 2 and 3 shared their day and did canoeing, zip line and the climbing wall. Canoeing gave everyone the opportunity to get really wet and splash around on the canal. We played some great games and paddled together in our teams. The climbing wall was a challenge but we faced our fears and smashed it. Everyone gave it their best and climbed as high as they could. The zip line was so much fun, flying across the Pendarren fields.
Group 1 and 4 went to the seaside and enjoyed the most fantastic weather. We walked from Langland Bay around headlands to Caswell Bay. We ate our picnic lunch on the beach and then it was time to play. We built sandcastles, buried each other in the sand and wrote in the sand. Finally it was then time to go into the sea for a good splash around. It was freezing cold but nobody complained as it was a refreshing break from the sunshine.
Thursday 22nd May
We woke up again to another beautiful morning. Today was going to be another action packed day for all our groups.
Group1 and 4 would be alternating between canoeing, climbing and the zipline. Groups 2 and 3 were going to climb Sugar Loaf.
Of course we were happy that Spurs won their Europa final but it meant we were going to have to cut our trip short. Thursday evening is always busy but due to us having to leave at 7:00am the next morning it was busier than ever. After we had packed we ate dinner and the duty teams cleared the dining hall. Thursday evening is also our turn to visit the Pendarren shop to buy our souvenirs.
Our final activity at Pendarren was to visit the tipi, sit around an open fire and think about the time we had just experienced together. We shared some of our challenges and celebrated our accomplishments together. We went to bed for the final time and slept in preparation for the last early morning wake up bell.
